How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Orthodontic Education — PSMU Participation in an International Forum in Poland

On June 3, 2025, Professor Liubov Smagliuk, Doctor of Medical Sciences, the Head of the Department of Orthodontics at Poltava State Medical University, took part in the international Teacher Forum-2025, held in Kraków, Poland. This year’s forum was dedicated to the theme: "Artificial Intelligence: An Introduction for the Orthodontics Educator."

The event took place ahead of the 100th Congress of the European Orthodontic Society and brought together specialists to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by digital transformation in dental education.

Key topics addressed during the forum included:

- Fundamentals of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning in dentistry

- Examples of algorithm application in cephalometry, diagnosis, and treatment outcome prediction

- Digital skills needed by today’s students studying orthodontics

- Adapting curriculum content to fit digital realities

- Ethical considerations in AI use: where is the line between support and replacement of professional expertise?

A lecture by Professor Ruben Pauwels sparked particular interest and led to an active discussion among participants regarding the future of orthodontic education and the evolving role of educators in the digital era.

Participation in such international events supports the professional development of educators, fosters the integration of innovation into the educational process, and enhances digital competencies within the field of medical education.
