On October 4–7, 2025, in Berlin (Federal Republic of Germany), the 33rd United European Gastroenterology Week (UEG Week 2025) took place.

The congress brought together 12,230 delegates from 115 countries, with 10% participating virtually. The largest group of participants represented European countries (65.8%), followed by Asia (16.6%), North America (9.3%), Africa (3.4%), Latin America and the Caribbean (2.9%), and Australia (2%).

Forty-two doctors from Ukraine took part in this major scientific forum. Importantly, all Ukrainian physicians who wished to join the congress online were able to do so free of charge, following a decision by the UEG leadership in response to a request from the Presidium of the Ukrainian Gastroenterological Association.

Professor Ihor Skrypnyk, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Postgraduate Education, Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 1, and President of the Ukrainian Gastroenterological Association, participated in the congress.

Traditionally, the first day and a half of the event featured a postgraduate education course, which attracted 5,289 registered participants. The course addressed the most pressing and unresolved issues in gastroenterology. Participants showed great interest in the presentations of leading global experts on the management of patients with acute severe colitis, diabetes mellitus in patients with gastroenterological disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, and the use of endoscopic therapy in cases of endoscopic and surgical complications. The sessions also covered diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune liver and biliary tract diseases, as well as metabolic and vascular liver disorders.

Sectional and plenary meetings focused on key issues such as the management of patients with non-cardiac chest pain, new approaches to diagnosing and treating complications of chronic liver diseases, and modern strategies for managing inflammatory bowel diseases, among others.

On October 4, Professor Skrypnyk took part in the UEG National Societies Forum, which discussed relevant topics in environmental gastroenterology, gender policy, and enhancing the engagement of young scientists. The UEG Strategic Development Plan for 2027–2030 was also presented.

The event left unforgettable impressions, offering an opportunity to listen to outstanding scientific reports and engage in direct communication with leading experts in European and global gastroenterology — including Matthias Löhr (Sweden), Helena Cortez-Pinto (Portugal), and colleagues from other countries.
