My First Erasmus+ Experience: A Journey of Knowledge and Discovery

My first time participating in the Erasmus+ program turned out to be an unforgettable adventure, offering not only valuable knowledge but also incredible experiences. Even the journey to Greece was filled with excitement and memorable moments. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed by the vast university campus and its modern approach to education.

Studies and Professional Experience

One of the first things that surprised me was the approachability of Greek professors—not only were they highly experienced, but also very open to students. The courses were conducted in English, and local students spoke it fluently, which made communication much easier.

I particularly enjoyed subjects like:

  • Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Periodontology
  • Oral Mucosal Pathology
  • Orthodontics

In Maxillofacial Surgery classes, we observed operations of varying complexity and had the opportunity to visit a clinic where complex facial procedures were performed.

During Periodontology with Professor Apatsidou, we studied the latest treatment protocols for periodontal diseases and peri-implantitis. The most valuable part for me was the opportunity to perform professional hygiene procedures independently and manage my own patients.

In Oral Mucosal Pathology, I saw a variety of oral mucosal diseases for the first time, and we took biopsy samples for further diagnostics. Learning to assess prognosis and develop treatment plans for real patients was an invaluable experience.

Orthodontic training was equally fascinating. I worked alongside orthodontic residents, who guided me through the intricacies of patient management and shared practical skills.

Additionally, the university integrates the latest technologies in dental practice, allowing me to not only deepen my knowledge but also master modern treatment methods.

Travel and Cultural Experience

During my studies, I had the opportunity to travel across Northern Greece, discovering breathtaking natural and historical sites. I was particularly amazed by the waterfalls, picturesque landscapes, and deep dive into Ancient Greek history.

One of the most significant moments for me was visiting the tomb of Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. Being in a place where history comes to life was truly a privilege. This experience deepened my understanding of the greatness of the Macedonian Empire and its profound influence on world history.

Life in Greece: Climate, Culture, and People

Greece completely won me over with its climate, cuisine, and incredible hospitality. The Greek people turned out to be warm, friendly, and always willing to help, which made my adaptation much easier.

Throughout the exchange program, I made many new connections, some of whom became lifelong friends. This is one of the most valuable aspects of Erasmus+, as it not only provides an excellent education but also fosters international friendships and connections.

Final Reflections

These six months transformed me both as a student and as a person. I gained invaluable professional experience and discovered a new culture that now feels close to my heart. Greece has left a lasting imprint on me, and I can confidently say that participating in this exchange program was one of the best decisions of my life.

If you have the opportunity to take part in Erasmus+, don’t hesitate—it’s a priceless experience worth living!
