International students of UMSA have been involving into active extracurricular activities on learning of Ukraine. Within the concept of educational work , the faculty members of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities  together with the first-year students of the International Faculty visited the exhibition “In the hugs of grandmother’s traditions”, which is opened in the arts department of Poltava Regional Universal  Scientific Library named after I.P. Kotliarevskiy within the project “Traditional knotted rag doll of Poltava region”, aimed at presentation of the creative works by the artists - inheritors of elements of intangible cultural heritage of Poltava region, included in the Regional list of elements of intangible cultural heritage (IHS).
International students from Sudan, Nigeria, Morocco, and Turkey learned about the preservation and development of the traditions of the ancient form of folk art in the Poltava region – rag doll making, and how, expressing their vision of folk traditions and beliefs, masters use creative imagination, artistic view and life experience to implement original, unique, bright, original images in their rag dolls. Therefore, it is not surprising that each rag doll is unique in its decorative design, semantic and figurative solution. Most of the exhibited rag dolls have a unique history, because they are made according to the descriptions of masters of older generations. It feels like they are all created with great love.
The exhibition left an unforgettable impression, enriched with knowledge of deep and unique Ukrainian traditions.
