International cooperation: scientists of PSMU on the combination of theory and practice

Last November, PSMU started implementing the grant project “Life Support Training and Dissemination (LIFESTRAND) for Higher Education Institutions and Community Representatives living in Military Risk Areas of Ukraine and Georgia” within the framework of the European Union's Erasmus+ program 101129296 - ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE-STRAND-1 (Capacity Building in Higher Education).

An intensive 5-day training for consortium members from Ukraine and Georgia was held on February 19-23, 2024 at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and the University of Porto (Portugal). PSMU was represented by the team of experienced specialists consisting of Dr. Volodymyr Koka, lecturer of the Department of Accident and Military Medicine; Dr. Yulia Cherniavska, Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatrics No. 1 with Neonatology; Dr. Nataliia Adamchuk, Assistant Professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care; Dr. Yevhenii Chip and Dr. Serhii Kononenko, Assistant Professors of the Department of Surgery No. 3.

The combination of theoretical material with practical skills training and simulation scenarios was conducted on the following topics:

  1. Triage in multiple victim situations.
  2. On site head-to-toe assessment.
  3. Basic life support & Airway management.
  4. Psychological assessment and support.
  5. Polytraumatized Patient. Fractures management.
  6. Pain management.
  7. Evacuation of victims.
  8. Medical and trauma emergencies.

The knowledge and practical skills gained will be further applied in the course of the LIFESTRAND project and implemented in the university's educational process.
