On the invitation of Omar Hernandez, Program Manager and Public Information Officer, United Nations Academic Impact, Tetiana Leshchenko, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities of PSMU and Associate Professor Olena Shevchenko took part in the online conference "Higher Education and Multilateralism: Teaching and Research, held on October 24, when United Nations Day is marked.
The researchers highlighted the activities of universities and colleges worldwide in addressing global challenges. They delved into what the concept of "multilateralism" means for higher education institutions. Significant attention was given to the need for improving relations between the United Nations and academic communities, particularly in Ukraine. They also emphasized the role of universities in developing educational programs, courses and coordinating with UN bodies.
It was emphasized that the viewpoints of students have a significant impact on the future of education. The main focus is on recognizing the necessity of changes in education to ensure the continued development of society.
Participants discussed various issues: legal, economic, political, socio-cultural factors regulating human activity; the regulation of social global issues (demographic, migration, risks of political instability, terrorism, military conflicts; ensuring human rights and democratic transformations worldwide).
In conclusion, it was underscored that education is critically necessary for achieving stable, sustainable human development. It is a crucial factor in eradicating poverty, ensuring general prosperity, fostering widespread economic growth and building a peaceful and tolerant society.
