From October 23 to 25, 2023, the conference dedicated to the Anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum took place at the University of Lodz (Poland). It was first signed by 388 rectors in 1988. Poltava State Medical University joined this association in 2018 in Salamanca, Spain.
The theme of the 2023 MCO conference was “Universities and Re-Construction of Cities: the Role of Research and Education”. It was addressed in numerous presentations regarding the regional perspectives of universities, including in Poland and Ukraine. Real-life examples of contributions by universities to reconstruction and recovery in various situations, such as natural disasters and pandemics in different parts of the world: Europe, Asia, USA, were discussed. Mykhailo Vinnytskyi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, made the online presentation on current challenges in education and science.
Considerable attention was given to cooperation with student organizations. A "memorandum of understanding" was signed with the Global Student Forum. Topics discussed included the role of the university in implementing social functions, the role of digitalization in education for the development of universities and their communities, significant strengthening of the goals of universities focused on research and education in conditions of recovery, and more.
At the end of the conference, a vibrant Ceremony for the Signing of the Magna Charta by new universities committed to the principles of the Universitatum was held.
