On March 14, 2025, on Ukrainian Volunteer Day, a series of significant events took place at the Poltava Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after M. Gogol. These events brought together young scientists, educators, and the regional community. Among them were the award ceremony for the winners of the second stage of the All-Ukrainian Research Competition for students of the Poltava Branch of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the special cancellation of the stamp "City of Heroes. Mariupol."
A key part of the day was the career guidance exhibition "Higher Education Institutions – Space for Scientific Innovations for Students of the Poltava Regional Junior Academy of Sciences", dedicated to Ukrainian Volunteer Day, where Poltava State Medical University (PSMU) was one of the leading participants.
PSMU presented several interactive stations that garnered great interest from young visitors and exhibition guests. The showcased areas included "Simulation Technologies in the Educational Process", "Interactive Histology", "Virtual Patient".
A special highlight was the surgical instruments and operating table station, where Oleksandr Mamai, assistant at the Department of Anatomy with Clinical Anatomy and Operative Surgery at PSMU, demonstrated modern surgical tools and introduced participants to operative intervention methods used in both civilian and military medicine.
"Today, we are demonstrating samples of surgical instruments and showing how general surgical procedures are performed, including tracheotomy and tracheostomy—procedures crucial even in combat conditions. Additionally, we are showcasing more advanced laparoscopic surgeries, which are performed in hospitals and require minimal rehabilitation time," noted Oleksandr Mamai.
Another highly popular station allowed visitors, under the supervision of paramedics, to learn the basics of emergency care, including hands-on practice of cardiac massage on specialized mannequins.
The exhibition was attended by key officials, including Anton Chubenko, Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Yevhen Konchakovsky, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Oleh Didenko, Regional Council Deputy. These dignitaries familiarized themselves with the educational innovations presented and expressed their support for the event participants.
PSMU’s delegation included Professor Valerii Pokhylko, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Extracurricular Activities, and Educational Work, Ihor Tretiak, Assistant at the Department of Internal Medicine No. 1, Volodymyr Koka, Lecturer at the Department of Disaster Medicine and Military Medicine, Yevhen Stetsuk, Acting Head of the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, Hennadii Balia, Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee.
Through its strong presence at the exhibition, PSMU once again reaffirmed its status as a leader in medical education in the region, demonstrating openness to collaboration with talented youth aspiring to build their future in medicine and science.
