"It was Thursday. The call at six in the morning,
that voice of despair that was heard without end
I will remember it forever,
that was the beginning of my war story...
Two years have passed. Two long years, during which much has happened, changed, and faded into oblivion. But if you ask each of us: "How did the war begin?" we will get a very detailed picture of the morning of February 24, 2022.
Thursday was the hardest day of the week. I had four classes at the university from morning until evening, but my soul was happy because warm spring was about to arrive. The day before, on February 23, the weather was beautiful and sunny, which only added to the joy of getting an A in biochemistry. Later, I worked out with my friends at the gym, lifted new weights, and felt a pleasant sense of fatigue that permeated my entire body. The evening was filled with cranial nerve nuclei. Perhaps all doctors remember going through these twelve circles of Hell personally... That's why the alarm went off an hour earlier than usual: I had to repeat the material I had learned before class.
But the first call came from a completely different source. The trembling voice on the phone said a single phrase: "It has begun...". This was followed by overloaded telephone networks, queues, and hastily packed belongings. At the same time, we could not panic and had to take care not only of ourselves, but also of those we had tamed: catch a fish from the aquarium, put the cat in a carrier, give the pot plants to the neighbors who decided to stay. Caring for others is what made us human on that terrible day. Misunderstanding, despair, hopelessness - they immediately disappeared after the first long siren blast. There was a feeling in the air as if someone had put life on hold. Then came the realization of irreversibility - how many words are not said, how many thoughts are hidden in a distant drawer... So seize the moment, live here and now. Call your old grandmother in the village on time, remember how as a child you used to pick mulberries first on a neighbor's tree and then on your own, a friend who was late for a meeting again, have time to call your parents who were scolding you the day before because of a low grade, call, do not put anything off, because you do not know what call may come next! Just like it was on the morning of February 24..."
