Every Saturday in May, those who pave the way to the future with painstaking scientific work celebrate their professional holiday. This holiday unites people who strive to make the world better and our country worthy of the pride of its citizens.

For Poltava State Medical University, it is special, because its scientists are always actively involved in the implementation of research initiatives. The University is proud of the significant achievements of our faculty members and learners. 2021 is no exception.

Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Extracurricular Activities, Professor Pokhylko V.I. has been awarded the Borys Paton National Prize of Ukraine for his work “Ensuring the quality of medical care for newborns in the development of perinatal services in Ukraine.”  

Educating the prospective young generation of scientists is a priority and a continuation of glorious scientific traditions. Young scientists of the University, namely, Vodoriz Ya. Yu., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Propaedeutics of Therapeutic Dentistry and Faustova M.O., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology have been awarded the Scholarships of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine; Dubinina V.O. Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences has been awarded  the Scholarships of Poltava City Council; Skrypnyk M.I., PhD student of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry has been awarded the  State individual scholarship to the best young scientists to commemorate the events of the Revolution of Dignity and honor the heroism of the Heroes of Ukraine - the Heavenly Hundred Heroes.

The All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference of Young Scientists “Medical Science - 2021" and the Scientific Papers Contest have been held.

Master’s degree students also contribute to the scientific achievements of the University by winning 5 top awards in the second round of the competition, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and becoming Laureates of the “NAMS Award”. Scholarships of the All-Ukrainian Scholarship Program of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation "Zavtra.UA" have been awarded to five students. Our students follow the success of their mentors and in 2021 became winners of 66 Ukrainian conferences and 7 International - abroad, published 16 papers in periodicals of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and 5 - in Scopus and Web of Science.

Thanks to the efforts of the Students Scientific Society headed by Professor Neporada K.S. the II International Student Scientific Conference “International Medical Students Conference in Poltava (IMEDSCOP) 2021” was held with the participation of 43 HEIs and 20 countries (http://sntpdmu.pl.ua/uk). The second round of the competition in dentistry was held under the auspice of the Ministry of Education and Science, in which students of 9 HEIs of Ukraine took part.

This year post-doctoral robes were worn by the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine № 1 Maslova G.V., Head of the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology with Clinical Immunology and Allergology Lutsenko R.V., Head of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences Dubinina V.O., Associate Professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases with Neurosurgery and Medical Genetics Delva I.I., Associate Professor of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry Popovich I.Y., Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology Isakov R.I., Associate Professor of the Department of Human Anatomy Hryn V.G. and Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Health, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy with Sports Medicine and Physical Rehabilitation Zhamardiy V.O.

12 of our postgraduate students and faculty members have been awarded the PhD degrees, 20 - doctors of philosophy. Currently, 80 learners are studying for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University.

During the last year, permanent  (https://www.pdmu.edu.ua/spetsrada/dysertacii/d-44-601-01 , https://www.pdmu.edu.ua/spetsrada/ ) and  single-time specialized Academic Councils of the University (https://www.pdmu.edu.ua/spetsrada/dysertacii/rvr ) worked productively to train highly qualified personnel.

In order to create a state-of-the-art educational and scientific environment for higher education students of all levels, the University organized 14 All-Ukrainian scientific-practical conferences, All-Ukrainian scientific-practical conferences with international participation and international conferences, including 1st International Medical Students Conference in Poltava 2020 with the participation of 74 participants from other educational institutions of Ukraine and 24 foreign ones (https://sntumsa.pl.ua/uk/conference ), the Contest of scientific works of young scientists and the second round of the All-Ukrainian contest of student scientific works in dentistry under the auspice of the  Ministry of Education and Science  of Ukraine (http://sntumsa.pl.ua/konkurs ).

The University has taken measures to expand international cooperation, including agreements between the PSMU and Paul Sabatier University (Toulouse, France), Aristotle University (Thessaloniki, Greece), Santiago de Compostela University (Spain) on academic mobility of postgraduate students and faculty members within the Erasmus + project. Postgraduate students Vasko M. Yu., Chebotar O.V., Kerbazh NR are currently implementing the credit academic mobility, and Boryak H. R., Phd is carrying out experimental research at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

An agreement on scientific cooperation has been concluded with the University of La Rioja (Spain). Scientific traineeship is carried out by Associate Prof. Lysanets Yu. V. at the above institution. New horizons of cooperation have been opened with the University of Juntendo (Japan). Postgraduate student M.I. Skrypnyk starts participating in the internship program.

Joining the initiative of the United Nations International Initiative "Academic Impact" (UNAI), Poltava State Medical University reiterated its commitment to the academic values of the international space, as well as its readiness to help solve urgent problems of mankind.

Following the ideas of the Magna Charta Universitatum, our University independently and openly conducts educational and scientific activities in accordance with the dynamic needs of society, modern scientific achievements, affirms the urgent need for mutual knowledge and interaction of different cultures. Being always open to the dialogue, the University has united experienced and creative educators with inquisitive students who represent Alma Mater in expert, scientific and methodological commissions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, professional NGOs, as experts of the National Agency for ensuring the quality of higher education, in the editorial boards of leading medical publications in Ukraine and around the world. Working fruitfully, the University staff published 1670 articles in the authoritative Scopus and Web of Science scientometric databases (https://www.scopus.com/affil/profile.uri?afid=60070097 , https://www.webofscience.com/wos/woscc/summary/f2090ed7-e36f-461e-8705-7406a72fd160-39091b2a/relevance/1 ). In the SCOPUS 2020 ranking of Ukrainian universities, PSMU took 82nd place (https://osvita.ua/vnz/rating/82316/).

In 2021, research and innovation activities were carried out effectively, which as a result allowed the University to obtain 126 safe-conduct documents, 40 innovations, 17 information letters and to register 24 innovative medical technologies in the state order.

A significant event for the University staff was the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the University, which was joined by our colleagues from well-known educational and research institutions in Lithuania, Spain, Great Britain, Poland, Georgia and Austria. The All-Ukrainian interdisciplinary scientific-practical conference with international participation “UMSA - a century of innovative aspects and scientific achievements” and 24 other international and All-Ukrainian scientific-practical events were dedicated to the significant event.

This year we celebrate the professional holiday with confidence that science is the foundation of the future, thanks to its achievements we will definitely be able to defeat the enemy and rebuild Ukraine.
