To the International Day of Literacy, the faculty members of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities Olena Shevchenko and Valentyna Vladymyrova had the online meeting with PSMU students of the International Faculty and together with the students prepared, demonstrated and discussed the captivating presentation (gr. 11, 3 med.; 21a, 2 med.; 24a, 2 med.; 29a, 2 med.; 23a, 3 med.; 21a, 4 dent.).
As a result of the online discussion, the participants came to the conclusion that being literate is not only being able to read and write, but also being able to use what is read to benefit oneself and the environment. Skills such as communication skills, the ability to work in a team, the ability to solve the tasks with creativity and innovation, as well as critical thinking will be extremely necessary for future medical professionals who obtain higher education at PSMU. We pay close attention to this in the educational process with them.
Let's be literate, let's improve our lives and the world around us!
Ad note.
International Literacy Day is one of the international days celebrated in the United Nations system annually in accordance with the decision of the 14th session of UNESCO 1.141. Literacy is a celebration for humanity, which has made impressive progress in this field, bringing the number of literate people in the world to four billion. However, the fight against illiteracy, as before, remains a task of a wide scale and complexity. Despite the notable successes of many countries, more than 860 million adults remain illiterate, and more than 100 million children do not have the opportunity to obtain at least a primary education. Many children, young people and adults do not meet the level necessary to be considered literate in today's world, which makes it difficult for humanity to coexist in the conditions of globalization. The urgent need to deploy literacy programs is increasing.
