March is the blue-eyed dawn of spring, the awakening not only of the earth dormant by blizzards, but also of desperate souls. Therefore, it is not by chance that the first month of spring is often called Shevchenko’s in Ukraine. “One person was enough to stir up the nation”, Ostap Vyshnia wrote, because in his fiery words all that was hidden in the depths of the all-embracing soul of the people came to life.
On March 9, 2021 the faculty members of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Humanities at UMSA together with the students joined the festive event: reading of Shevchenko’s works, reaffirming that Shevchenko is an artist for all ages for all people worldwide.
Tetiana Leshchenko, the Head of the Department, presented the audience with the rare editions of the great poet, which are stored in the literary fund of the Department, and the young people were inspired to read their favorite immortal verses from “Kobzar”.
Over time, the figure of the Great Kobzar became more and more important in the minds of Ukrainians and guests of our state, which is not surprising, since his words, which became prophetic, sprouted with selected grain.
