On September 2, 2024, the State Flag of Ukraine, the flag of Poltava, and the flag of Poltava State Medical University were proudly hoisted at the entrance of the university's administrative building. Nearly 700 first-year students, who had enrolled in various fields of study, prepared to take the Student Oath on this day.

This traditional event, filled with vibrant and overwhelmingly positive emotions for all participants, would not have been possible without the defenders of our nation, who stand side by side on the front lines, protecting our borders and defending our homeland from a ruthless enemy invasion. A moment of silence was observed to honor the memory of the fallen heroes, paying tribute to their courage and bravery.

Life goes on, and the path of hard work and great responsibility, although now in a different, educational, and labor-oriented direction, has united everyone who belongs to the large, friendly family of Poltava State Medical University. The ceremony was attended by government representatives and Metropolitan Feodor of Poltava and Kremenchuk. The ceremony, marking the admission of students to the first year, was opened by the university’s Rector, Viacheslav Zhdan.

"A doctor is a person morally prepared to protect another human being," he said in his welcoming speech. "A teacher, a doctor, and a lawyer—these professions can only be pursued by those who are morally ready for it. Before you a broad path lies to realizing your potential in your chosen field, so: learn, acquire the necessary skills and knowledge, and in 5-6 years (depending on the length of your chosen program), we will meet again at another ceremony, where you will thank us for the deep knowledge you have gained, and we will thank you for your hard work and for becoming highly qualified professionals that we can be proud of!"

In the words of wisdom from the distinguished guests, the new students were encouraged to always be aware of their responsibility to the Ukrainian people for the future of the state, to remember the importance of their chosen profession for societal development, and to keep the flame of inspiration and enthusiasm, which brought them to the university, alive throughout their lives.

The climax of the ceremony was the recitation of the Student Oath of Poltava State Medical University and the presentation of symbolic student attributes—The Key of Knowledge and the Student ID—by Rector Viacheslav Zhdan, who promised the first-year students that upon successfully completing their studies in 5-6 years, these would be exchanged for well-deserved Diplomas.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere in the university courtyard on this significant day was the performance by the folk amateur ballroom dance ensemble "Orhideia," led by Irina Lublinska. The ceremony concluded on a high patriotic note with the song "The Cossack Lineage is Unbreakable!" (by Jerry Heil), performed by the folk amateur vocal ensemble "Malvy" (artistic director Liudmyla Sydorenko).
