From November 21 to 26, 2023, the 40th National Gastroenterology Week took place in Antalya, Turkey, in conjunction with the 11th Congress of Gastrointestinal Surgeons. This event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic.
The congress involved the participation of 1,500 delegate participants, and the exhibition halls featured 45 leading pharmaceutical companies and medical equipment manufacturers from around the world.
Upon the initiative of the Turkish Society of Gastroenterologists, the President of the Ukrainian Gastroenterological Association, Prof. Ihor Skrypnyk, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Postgraduate Education, Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine No., took part as an invited foreign speaker in the scientific event.
Discussions on the latest achievements in the field of gastroenterology for the years 2022-2023, within the apt topic «What's New in Gastroenterology?", were primarily led by speakers from the European Gastroenterological Association. Professor Ihor Skrypnyk delivered the oral presentation on "Drug-Induced Liver Injuries," highlighting the main points of clinical recommendations from the European Association for the Study of the Liver (2019), the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (2023), and the findings of his own research.
A special focus at the Congress was given to the issue of "Errors in Gastroenterology," which were discussed in sessions featuring two different experts explaining ways to avoid them after presenting a case containing errors. For the first time, a planned joint "Educational Meeting of Young Gastroenterologists" took place, organized by the Turkish Society of Gastroenterologists and the United Gastroenterological Association. A comprehensive professional development program for Turkish and European young gastroenterologists was developed and presented.
The congress was conducted at a high scientific level, and further cooperation is ongoing.
