On February 15, 2023 on the Day of Commemoration of Participants in Combat Actions on the Territory of Other States, which was commemorated to the day of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the Republic of Afghanistan in 1989, the exhibition "The Warriors. History of the Ukrainian Army" was opened by the faculty staff of the Department of Accident and Military Medicine, Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology, administration of the International Faculty and PSMU Library personnel. The organizer of the project is the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance. The moderator of the project is Nataliya Kuzmenko, the Head of the Vasyl Krychevsky Research Department of Modern History of the Poltava Museum of Local History.
The exhibition presents 14 expositions about the history of military formations on the territory of Ukraine from the time of the Rus to the present day. It makes the historical excursion into the past and get an idea of the combat uniform and weapons of Ukrainian soldiers in different historical eras. The photos are accompanied by the information about the type of military organizations, the number and armament of the troops, the methods of military art and the most significant battles. The purpose of the exhibition is to show the path taken by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the times of the Rus to the ATO/JFO, to evoke a sense of respect for the glorious victories of our ancestors.
The event was continued in the reading room of the PSMU library. There, its participants watched the documentary film "USSR – Afghanistan. 40 years ago." Oleksandr Malynskyi, the lecturer of the Department of Accident and Military Medicine of the PSMU, a participant in combat operations in Afghanistan (1979-1985), the Colonel of the Medical Service Corps, a veteran of the military service of the USSR and Ukraine, Honorary Professor of the PSMU made comments on the film and shared his memories of medical military service. He urged future medical doctors to master professionally and thoroughly the specialized medical profession and handed over to the exhibition of the University's National Museum a fragment of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile complex of the country-aggressor, as a tragic testimony of modern war. Library Director Olga Borovyk presented the guest of honor with the book "History is endless: 100 years of UMSA".
