The Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Educational and Humanitarian Work with Youth conducted an informational and educational class dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the "Block" KGB operation for the first-year students of the International Faculty. From the top confidential pages of 50 years ago, the period from January 12 to 14, 1972, comes to life, when 14 members of the Ukrainian intelligentsia were arrested by the KGB of the Ukrainian SSR in Kyiv and Lviv.
The thorny path to defending the culture and traditions of the Ukrainian people has become quite obvious. The “Block” operation was directed against people who allowed themselves, as at present, a fairly innocent thing, namely, the production and distribution of self-publication. Then it was punished quite severely.
Students from different countries expressed their views on those events, but still agreed that Ukrainians' own culture, traditions and aspirations for identity at the time were a forced but right decision.
