Today, on June 7, 2024, the Department of Anatomy with Clinical Anatomy and Operative Surgery at Poltava State Medical University is in the final stage of a 4-day training for surgeons. It was held to optimize the experience of managing wounded in the conditions of combat trauma. Experienced U.S. military surgeons have been passing on their knowledge and skills to their Ukrainian colleagues.
Today's surgery, the last day of the training, was also devoted to practicing skills in providing primary surgical care under martial law on laboratory animals (pigs).
The academic staff of PSMU, in particular, the Departments of Surgery No. 1, 2, 3, as well as surgeons from health care facilities of the city and region, joined the stage 2 of the training. It is important that our higher education students also took part in the training today, and their American colleagues noted their high level of practical and theoretical training, skills and abilities acquired during the course of study. Among other positive feedback, our foreign colleagues mentioned the high level of English language proficiency of our students, which allowed them to work in the operating rooms directly, without the involvement of translators.
At the beginning of the final day, PSMU Rector, Professor Viacheslav Zhdan visited the Department and also thanked his American colleagues for their hard and fruitful work, which is extremely relevant in today's conditions. He emphasized that the departments that participated in the training demonstrate a student-centered approach, and this is extremely important in the sense that students work side by side with teachers as a team in operating rooms and develop relevant skills and abilities.
Today is the last day of the training and the summarizing of its results. All participants called it a success for both sides, and Ukrainian surgeons expressed warm words of gratitude to their foreign colleagues for their comprehensive support.
