Under martial law, we continue the traditions of our people to commemorate the victims of the Chernobyl accident that occured on April 26, 1986, which is the biggest man-made disaster. As a result of the explosion, more than 145,000 square kilometers were contaminated with radionuclides, of which 52,000 square kilometers were agricultural land, more than 2.2 million people were affected, of which 255,000 were participants in the aftermath of the accident.
The Chernobyl tragedy is a symbol of courage of hundreds of thousands of our compatriots, both during the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, and during the military aggression of russia, when there was an unprecedented invasion of its troops into the sovereign independent state of Ukraine, including its part that was located in the Chernobyl zone and directly at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Noteworthy, on February 24, 2022 the russian military invaded the territory of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant; the estrangement  zone was used as a base for storing tens of tons of artillery shells. Enemy armored vehicles passed through the Red Forest, which was hit by the largest share of radioactive dust emissions in 1986, when a high dose of radiation caused the trees to turn brownish-red.
